Our Story

“…This family’s journey reminds us that we have the power to be the masters of our destiny
and we instinctively know that there is much we can do that is
not necessarily the road most travelled.’
Deborra-Lee & Hugh Jackman

I am the mother of 3 fabulous kids. For the past 3 years, I have done a full time crash course in options for maximising potential for young children in all areas of development. I have devoured countless books, medical extracts and websites, and have attended courses on topics related to early childhood development, alternative medicine and options for preventing intellectual deficiency… But this was never on my agenda!

I believe that all things happen for a reason! On one particular spring evening in 2006, our lives changed – dramatically. Overnight, I was forced to abandon my fashion career, travelling often and working ridiculous hours around my gorgeous family, to become a full time mother, therapist and researcher.

On this spring evening, I gave birth to my third child – born with Down Syndrome.

The above video runs for 3 minutes.

But this is not a website just for parents of children with Down Syndrome. This website – whilst still a work in progress – provides books, products and solutions for any parent. There are books on this site which are useful for teaching a ‘well’ baby to read or to do subtraction, just as they show parents that they can help their developmentally delayed child achieve encyclopaedic knowledge.

What I have learnt in this new ‘career’ of mine is that any child has the potential to be fit, strong, literate, healthy, independent and intellectually vibrant. Parents hold the key.

I’ve created this website to provide resources for ANY PARENT to use with ANY CHILD of ANY ABILITY. Whether your child is newborn or school aged, perfectly ‘well’ (I prefer this word to ‘normal’), or whether your child has special needs such as Autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, a behavioural challenge or some other form of brain injury, you have the ability to help your child become better than you have ever imagined.

My work in helping my son learn to read, crawl and run has been fulfilling beyond my wildest expectations of life as a stay-at-home-mother. Our achievement of extraordinary health with no sign of immune system weakness or ‘mental deficiency’ has been exciting beyond belief, and at 3 years old our son is beautiful, funny and cleveragainst the odds.

Down syndrome has been in the Australian media recently…

Natural therapies can have a profound effect on the health and well being of any person.

Proudly Launching our Foundation!

Through my experiences with

our family – and more intensely with our son, I have come to understand the importance of natural therapies not only for general health, but also for maximising brain function and behaviour in children.

“…when i started reading Naturally Better, I was hoping to get a couple of ideas… but I never thought I would get thismuch information from it!” – IB, Singleton, NSW

I’ve created this website – and have now written a book – to help parents get access to the help we have been fortunate enough to find. People need to know about the natural options for easing allergies, for improving behaviour and for boosting the immune system. Natural alternatives abound, whilst right now, around the world, 20 million children are on some form of psychotropic drug – to tackle behavioural issues etc.

Don’t get me started on that…. I’ll be first to admit I am a hippy at heart, so for me our approach has been completely natural – and believe me, natural does not mean ineffectual. In fact we have seen dramatic changes, in some cases overnight.

Naturally Better has come into being because of an extraordinary family event… and I hope that I can provide you with help for your child to be better than you ever dreamed – naturally.

  1. Hi-
I can’t tell you how excited I am to have come across your website! We had to leave our brachiation ladder behind when moving to Sydney from California, and I have been really missing that wonderful tool for my now 2 year old.
I have been reading the Glenn Domain books, attended the first course by the Institutes of Human Development when I was pregnant with my first child and I truly excited to read on your website that followers of the Domain work excist here in Australia! Just wanted to express my gratitude to you, thanks again for creating this resourceful website- I feel connected :-)

    Best, Gitta Sivander

    Hi Ninan,
sorry I took so long to reply. No it’s not too late. Many of the methods we have used are working for older kids too. You are welcome to email me – naturallybetterkids@gmail.com and we can discuss further. Regards, Kristen.
