Possibly the World’s Best Play Dough Recipe

I’ve found it! The best play dough I have ever felt, played with, or made! It’s better than the bought stuff, takes a minute to make, and is a brilliant way to use up all those remaining toxic food colorings you may or may not have to lurk at the back of your pantry!

Then last time I made some, I added the peppermint oil as a preservative and it lasted about 4 months – even then we only threw it out because it had accumulated a few stray sticks and a handful of soil from the garden!

Today’s batch has glitter in it, but we’ve also made it with sequins & sand.

Here is the recipe I found online (click here for the original link):

Uncooked Play Dough

  • 2 cups of plain flour
  • 4 tablespoons of ‘cream of tartar
  • 2 tablespoons of cooking oil
  • 1 cup of salt
  • 2 cups of boiling water
  • food coloring

*Just pop it all in a mixing bowl and mix!

*It looks as though it is not going to mix well at first but hang in there and throw it onto the bench to knead, and it will come together really nicely.

*We put different things in ours also such as glitter and sand. Just be careful you don’t put things in like rice as they tend to go moldy – we find glitter is really good.

*Add peppermint oil for a great smell and even longer-lasting playdough…

WHEN I MAKE A KIT, I WHISK THE DRY INGREDIENTS FIRST SO IT’S AERATED AND LUMP-FREE.

Have fun!
